Preface by Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani for the White Paper on the Finance Innovation competitiveness cluster: "Banks and Fintech: Innovation drivers in retail banking"

The FBF and the Finance Innovation competitiveness cluster jointly presented the White Paper "Banks & Fintech: innovation drivers in retail banking" in front of 200 banking and Fintech professionals.

Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani introduced the presentation of this White Paper, emphasizing several points:

Concerning innovation itself, French banks can rely on a long tradition (pioneer in the use of credit card, deployment of SEPA transfer, development of banking applications for smartphones) to confidently approach the digital transformation. Innovations in the banking sector meet the needs of users, and their success is based on ease of use and high level of security.

The relationship between banks and Fintech is in no way opposed but rather complementarity. Banks want to accompany Fintech, use their services or integrate them. For example, many banks have opened their "LAB" or Fintech incubator.

The publication of the White Paper is an unprecedented collective initiative, supported by the FBF, which has brought together 300 decision-makers from the bank, Fintech and research sectors. It identified 20 priority areas for innovation. Banks were able to exchange views with Fintech about their needs and reaffirm the cooperation required to accompany the digital transformation of the banking sector.
