Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani was a guest on RFI radio's "Eco d'ici Eco D'ailleurs" programme

The FBF's CEO talked about the new ways of accessing banking services, alongside Marc Rennard, Deputy CEO of Orange, and Mourtaza Asad-Syed, CEO of Yomoni.

After presenting the FBF and reminding listeners of the role it plays in the banking ecosystem, Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani talked about the imminent launch of Orange Bank, which she described as "good news in terms of the dynamism of the banking sector."

The integration of digital into banking services is not new, and mobile banking apps are among the most frequently used apps on a daily basis. Marie-Anne also emphasised that "the French banking model is based on full-service local banks (37,500 branches across France) that can meet many customer requirements in the same place."

Accordingly, the emergence of Fintechs is not a threat for banks, but rather an opportunity in terms of innovation.

But innovation must not mean deregulation. "Regulation is essential to maintain clients' trust in the financial sector in the broadest sense, and it must therefore apply to all players. [..] Security is an absolutely monumental challenge."
